The Sound of Music Live!

“The Sound of Music Live!” is a television event that aired on NBC on December 5, 2013. This special, produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, is a live adaptation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway musical, “The Sound of Music.” It features country singer Carrie Underwood in the role of Maria von Trapp and was broadcast live from Grumman Studios in Bethpage, New York. Meron believed that if the broadcast succeeded, it could pave the way for a new form of television entertainment. Julie Andrews, who played Maria in the 1965 film, personally approved Underwood’s casting at her request.
