The Lost Battalion
This war drama, rooted in historical events, depicts the harrowing experience of an American battalion of over 500 soldiers who become isolated behind enemy lines in the Argonne Forest in October 1918, during the final stages of World War I. “The Lost Battalion” is inspired by true events and takes place in 1918, as WWI nears its end. Tasked with seizing an enemy position in Charlvaux amid the intense Argonne campaign, the soldiers of the AEF 308th Battalion, 77th Division, are under the command of young American Major Charles Whittlesey, a committed yet inexperienced “citizen soldier.” Completely cut off from other allied forces, unaware of their precarious situation, and subjected to “friendly fire,” the more than 500 men of the 308th valiantly maintain their ground, enduring severe losses and unimaginable hardships. Meanwhile, their commanding officers, safely removed from the battlefield, heartlessly consider the men as expendable casualties.
