The Chessplayer
In 1934, Diego Padilla becomes the Spanish Chess Champion and falls in love with Marianne Latour, a journalist from France. Following the conclusion of the Civil War, Marianne persuades Diego to move to France with their daughter. However, Diego soon finds himself accused of espionage by the Nazis and is incarcerated in an SS prison. While imprisoned, Diego attempts to endure the harsh conditions by leveraging Colonel Maier’s interest in chess.
