The Chaperone
“The Chaperone” reveals a remarkable, previously untold tale of a solitary school teacher who bravely defended against a motorcycle gang while supervising a middle school dance in a church basement during the 1970s in Montreal, Canada. Narrated from the firsthand, unscripted perspectives of the school teacher and DJ present that night, the film vividly reconstructs the event using hand-drawn animation, miniature sets, puppetry, live-action Kung Fu, and explosive effects, all presented in stereoscopic 3D. With more than 10,000 hand-drawn illustrations, many colored with crayons, an original blaxploitation soundtrack, and a cast exceeding 200 individuals, “The Chaperone” offers a unique and unconventional take on documentary shorts.
