Set in the 17th century, “Stage Beauty” follows the story of Ned Kynaston, a celebrated actor renowned for his female roles on the London stage, whose career is upended when King Charles II lifts the ban on women performing, allowing his former dresser, Maria, to pursue her dream of acting.
