Tre kronor
“Tre kronor” was a Swedish soap opera broadcast on TV4 from 1994 to 1999. The storyline unfolded in the fictional middle-class suburb of Mälarviken, near Stockholm. The outdoor scenes were shot in Sätra, a Stockholm suburb, while the indoor scenes were filmed in a studio at Kvarnholmen and in Kungens Kurva. The show aired concurrently with “Rederiet” on SVT, and both series competed for the same audience, each attracting around 1-2 million viewers. TV4 launched “Tre kronor” in 1994 to vie for “Rederiet’s” audience. The theme music was composed by Lasse Holm. A spin-off film, “Reine och Mimmi i fjällen!,” centered on two characters, Reine and Mimmi. The series concluded dramatically with a suicide bombing at the local restaurant Tre Kronor, leaving only six characters alive. The bomber was a priest. Notable plot twists included Hans Wästberg, portrayed by Ulf Brunnberg, accidentally shooting his son Hans-Åke during a post office robbery, leading to his imprisonment and exit from the show after the second season. Season three ended with the death of Sirpa “Bimbo” Koskinen, Hans-Åke’s girlfriend, in a bus accident. Salongo, played by Richard Sseruwagi, was a wealthy Ugandan refugee who fell for a married police officer, Lena Sjökvist, played by Catharine Hansson, and eventually purchased the Tre Kronor restaurant. Later, Salongo acquired another restaurant and subsequently left the series.
