Smash
“Smash” is a musical drama TV series from the United States, conceived by playwright Theresa Rebeck and further developed by Robert Greenblatt for NBC. Esteemed filmmaker Steven Spielberg was among the executive producers. The show aired on NBC in the U.S. and was a production of DreamWorks Television and Universal Television. It centers on a fictional theater community in New York City, focusing on the development of a new Broadway musical. The series boasts a large ensemble cast, including Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, Katharine McPhee, Christian Borle, Megan Hilty, Jeremy Jordan, and Anjelica Huston.
The series premiered on February 6, 2012, with its first season concluding on May 14, 2012. The second and final season began on February 5, 2013, and wrapped up on May 26, 2013. In March 2013, NBC announced a schedule change, moving the show to Saturdays starting April 6, 2013. The series was officially canceled on May 10, 2013. Josh Safran, the executive producer and showrunner for the second season, mentioned that the final episode of season two was designed to serve as a series finale in case the show was not renewed.
The series, especially its pilot episode, received some critical acclaim. The first season won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography and received four nominations in total. Additionally, the series was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media.
