Queer Eye for the Straight Guy
Queer Eye is a reality TV series from the United States that first aired on the Bravo network in July 2003. Initially titled Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, the show was renamed after its third season to expand its focus. The series was the brainchild of executive producers David Collins and Michael Williams, along with their collaborator David Metzler, and was produced by Scout Productions.
The show centers around the stereotype that gay men excel in areas such as fashion, style, grooming, interior design, and culture. Each episode features a group of five gay men, known as the “Fab Five,” who transform an individual—typically a straight man—by updating his wardrobe, redesigning his living space, and providing guidance on grooming, lifestyle, and culinary choices.
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy premiered in 2003 and quickly became a surprise hit, generating significant buzz as one of the year’s most-discussed TV shows. Its success led to merchandise, international adaptations, and a spin-off aimed at women called Queer Eye for the Straight Girl. In 2004, the show won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality Program. The title was shortened to Queer Eye in its third season to reflect its broader makeover scope, which included women and gay men. Production concluded in June 2006, with the final ten episodes airing in October 2007, and the series wrapped up on October 30. In September 2008, the Fine Living Network briefly syndicated the show.
