Andromeda
Andromeda is a science fiction TV series from Canada and the United States, inspired by unused ideas from the late Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek. The show was developed by Robert Hewitt Wolfe and produced by Roddenberry’s widow, Majel Barrett. Kevin Sorbo played the lead role of High Guard Captain Dylan Hunt. The series first aired on October 2, 2000, and concluded on May 13, 2005.
The show was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and produced by Tribune Entertainment and Fireworks Entertainment. In Canada, it was distributed by Global TV, while in the United States, it was syndicated on WGN and other networks. Midway through its fourth season, the Sci-Fi Channel in the U.S. began airing the series. Andromeda is one of two television series derived from concepts Roddenberry developed in the 1960s and 1970s. The character name Dylan Hunt was also used in two TV movie pilots Roddenberry produced in the mid-1970s, Genesis II and Planet Earth, which shared a similar premise. The other series created from Roddenberry’s posthumous notes is Earth: Final Conflict.
