Ravayate Makhdush

This avant-garde film, which has been prohibited in Iran, employs fictionalized, grainy home video footage to narrate the tale of a toxic relationship between a prosperous middle-aged Iranian businessman and his 18-year-old wife, Goli. The story unfolds through the lens of a camcorder, which Goli received as a birthday gift from her husband. Since being taken from her family during the Kurdish rebellion at the age of nine, Goli has lived with him, serving as his sexual captive. Now pregnant, Goli begins to assert herself, and upon discovering that she has learned English and started reading, her husband increasingly confines her within their home.
