Presence of Mind

Henry James’ renowned horror story, The Turn of the Screw, is once again brought to the screen in this suspenseful film set in Spain. A young woman, played by Sadie Frost, is employed as a governess for two children, Miles and Flora, portrayed by Nilo Mur and Ella Jones. Their uncle, the Master, played by Harvey Keitel, has taken on their guardianship following the tragic loss of their parents. Initially, the governess is eager about her new role, but she soon finds Miles and Flora to be quite challenging. Additionally, she faces open hostility from Mrs. Grose, the housekeeper, played by Lauren Bacall, who manages most of the affairs at the Master’s estate. It isn’t long before the governess uncovers a sinister secret tied to Miss Jessel, the former governess, and Fosc, the Master’s previous valet, played by Dayne Danika and Agusti Villaronga, respectively. This film, titled El Celo, marks the directorial debut of Antoni Aloy.
