A young inmate becomes infatuated with a singer who is set to star in an upcoming musical, for which the director is currently holding auditions. He manages to escape and, through a series of intricate and often hilarious events, ends up as the lead in the musical. However, the police catch up with him just a day before the premiere… but that’s enough spoilers! The narrative continues with plenty of witty dialogue, fantastic music and singing, and a constantly evolving plot. The parallels between the play’s script and the real-life events add depth, making this one of the most entertaining Czech films I’ve seen in years (and I’ve seen quite a few)! It’s a must-watch for fans of comedy, drama, musicals, and theater.
