Annually, around 40,000 individuals from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East attempt to reach Europe. They are escaping conflict, oppression, and destitution. With land routes cut off, they embark on overcrowded boats, risking a perilous and frequently fatal journey across the Mediterranean Sea.
