Herbert White
Michael Shannon takes on the role of Herbert White, a character inspired by Frank Bidart’s poem of the same name. The narrative centers on Herbert, who works in the lumber industry, provides for his family, and secretly hunts and kills women he encounters in town. Although Herbert isn’t particularly likable, the film offers viewers a glimpse into the psyche of a serial killer, revealing that he often acts like an ordinary person. While films such as “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer” have explored similar themes, achieving the task of immersing the audience in the mind of a complex human monster in just 14 minutes is truly remarkable.
