Finding a Family

Gifted Alex, raised in Michigan, admires his mother, Ileana, a Romanian immigrant who achieved her dream of becoming a professor. Determined to fulfill her aspirations, he sets his sights on graduating from Harvard. However, when Ileana’s struggle with bipolar disorder leads her to frequently stop taking her medication, Alex finds himself repeatedly placed in foster care. At 16, he gains legal independence and resolves to take control of their lives.
