Fatherland
Exiled from his native country, protest singer Klaus Drittemann is forced to leave East Berlin, along with his wife and child, to relocate to West Berlin. There, representatives from an American record label are eagerly anticipating his arrival, intending to capitalize on his escape from communism for both ideological and financial gain. However, Klaus, feeling as uncomfortable in the West as he did in the East, is hesitant to be treated as a mere pawn. Opting not to finalize his contract—or doing so on his own terms—he travels to Cambridge to reunite with his father, a concert musician who, like Klaus, fled East Berlin thirty years ago when Klaus was just a child. Accompanying him is Emma, a young French journalist who knows the whereabouts of his father, who has been missing for over a decade. Although helpful, Emma may be concealing some truths from him.
