El olvido

El olvido

Heddy Honigmann revisits her hometown of Lima, Peru, to reconnect with a place and people she holds dear. The film explores a city, history, and community that have been largely overlooked. The residents, using irony as their tool for endurance, must also forget to avoid succumbing to cynicism, hatred, and sorrow. It reflects on a time when life, despite social disparities, corruption, and violence, was still enjoyable: waiters, bartenders, and shopkeepers who are fighting a losing battle and have lost everything. The film also highlights the children who survive by mastering street life, revealing the country’s true essence. Like the stray dogs they share the streets with, these children have no fond memories to let go of.
