Cal
Twenty-year-old Cal returns to Britain from France after learning about his mother’s illness. Upon his arrival in Bristol, he finds the city struggling with severe economic challenges due to the global financial crisis, with increasing poverty and crime, and frequent riots and looting. His return is far from welcoming, as his ailing mother remains staunchly homophobic and rejects Cal, who is now openly gay. Meanwhile, his Auntie Jane, living in a dilapidated council house, numbs her stagnant life with welfare-funded alcohol and unsettling attempts to seduce her nephew. As Cal navigates this challenging environment, he encounters a young student in need of assistance. However, his good deed inadvertently entangles him with a dangerous drug-dealing pimp, leading to a race against time to reconcile with his mother and leave the city. This is a gripping story of a family trapped in poverty, filled with anger and confusion, yet still yearning for love, respect, and acceptance.
