The Sleeping Voice
Following the conclusion of the Spanish Civil War in April 1939, by November 1940, Spain is suffering under the oppressive regime of dictator Franco. During this time, Pepita journeys from the countryside of Huelva to Madrid to support her sister Hortensia, who is seven months pregnant and incarcerated, facing the grim prospect of a death sentence.
