Prominent prosecutor Teodor Szacki ends his marriage and leaves Warsaw to embark on a fresh start in the charming town of Sandomierz, located in southeastern Poland. Shortly after his arrival, he is tasked with unraveling a peculiar and enigmatic murder case. Feeling out of place in the small-town setting, Szacki faces challenges in identifying the perpetrator, only to discover additional victims along the way. As the investigation unfolds, he uncovers that the murders are linked to supposed historical Jewish ritual killings, sparking a surge of anti-Semitic fervor in the community. Throughout his inquiry, Szacki grapples with the complex history of Polish-Jewish relations and the true findings of his investigation, revealing that some legends are mere fabrications without any basis in reality.
