Everynight… Everynight
This Australian drama, directed by Alkinos Tsilimidos and released in 1994, is adapted from Ray Mooney’s play of the same title. It explores the early years of contract killer Christopher Dale Flannery, set within the confines of Melbourne’s HM Prison Pentridge’s high-security H Division. The movie was filmed at HM Prison Geelong. The story follows Dale, who is in custody awaiting trial and has not yet been sentenced, as he endures the brutal injustice of repeated beatings. Over time, Dale becomes desensitized to the violence and harsh realities of prison life, finding a rebellious and unconventional way to cope and express his anger. In the final scene, as Dale defiantly exits the prison to face trial, the narrative underscores the correctional system’s failure to mold compliant, disciplined individuals. Despite being trapped by the system, Dale retains his sanity and his voice.
