Joe Pesci takes on the role of Louie Kritski, an unscrupulous landlord who has neglected his rundown apartment building to the point where he faces the possibility of imprisonment. Instead, the judge offers him an alternative: Louie must reside in his own dilapidated, vermin-infested building until he improves it to acceptable living conditions. Given 120 days to accomplish this, Louie encounters various tenants, including a drug dealer named Marlon, played by Ruben Blades. As time passes, Louie becomes more empathetic towards their struggles and begins to recognize the consequences of his own avarice. However, the true owner of the building is Louie’s father, Big Lou Kritski, portrayed by Vincent Gardenia, who is reluctant to invest the necessary funds to renovate the property.
