After her husband departs to be with a younger woman, Alice Washington, a mother in her mid-life, chooses to finish her college degree at Smith College. There, she shares a dorm with Zoe Burns, a 20-year-old student. Together, they navigate their personal journeys, disagreements, and mutual fascination with their poetry instructor.
