Endgame
In the late 1980s, a pivotal era in South Africa’s history unfolds. President P.W. Botha’s grip on power is tenuous as the African National Congress (ANC) intensifies its fight against apartheid, pushing the nation towards upheaval. A British mining company, believing their interests would be better protected in a stable South Africa, discreetly sends Michael Young, their public affairs director, to initiate unofficial talks between the opposing sides. Young assembles a hesitant yet brilliant team to navigate the path to reconciliation, tackling seemingly insurmountable challenges. He places his faith in ANC leader Thabo Mbeki and Afrikaner philosophy professor Willie Esterhuyse, whose empathy becomes the driving force for change, proving more influential than the violent threats aimed at derailing the peaceful discussions.
