The Dovekeepers
Set in ancient Israel, “The Dovekeepers” draws from the historical events at Masada in 70 C.E. Following their expulsion from Jerusalem by Roman forces, 900 Jewish individuals took refuge in a fortress atop Masada, a mountain in the Judean desert. Despite being surrounded by the formidable Roman legions, the Jews managed to withstand the siege for several months. The narrative unfolds through the eyes of a group of remarkable women who arrive at Masada, each with a distinct past but united by their will to survive. These women, who collaborate daily as caretakers of doves, are also harboring significant secrets. This four-hour limited series is adapted from Alice Hoffman’s bestselling and critically praised historical novel.
