Aladdin
“Aladdin” is an animated TV series produced by Walt Disney Television, which aired between 1994 and 1995. It is a continuation of the 1992 film and was animated at Slightly Offbeat Productions Studios in Penrose, Auckland, New Zealand. Following the direct-to-video sequel “The Return of Jafar,” the series continues the story with Aladdin residing in the palace and engaged to the spirited Princess Jasmine. Together, they face various dangers involving sorcerers, monsters, and thieves. They are joined by Aladdin’s monkey companion Abu, the lively Magic Carpet, and the quick-witted, shape-shifting Genie. Also part of the team is Iago, the sarcastic parrot who was once Jafar’s pet but now plays the role of an antihero. Although Jafar was defeated in the second movie, he makes a single appearance in an episode that also serves as a crossover with “Hercules: The Animated Series.”
Most of the original film’s cast returned to voice their characters, except for Dan Castellaneta, who took over the role of Genie from Robin Williams. Unlike the spinoff series of “The Little Mermaid,” this show does not include musical numbers.
The series was initially broadcast simultaneously on the syndicated “The Disney Afternoon” block and on CBS’s Saturday morning lineup. It was later rerun on the Disney Channel in the late 1990s until it was replaced by programming aimed at pre-teens. The show was also aired on Toon Disney but has since been removed from the lineup.
